New UK war memorial website to be launched

First World War Minister Helen Grant today visited the Grade II listed Watford Peace Memorial and announced an ambitious four-year programme to create, a one stop shop for information on all UK war memorials along with where to go for advice and funding.

Great to see this being produced as a single resource, saving people the need to hunt around for information.

Interesting they mention the funding comes specifically from fines paid by banks after the LIBOR scandal. Would it have been controversial for the government to have funded this if the money came from elsewhere?

Although this is announced on, it doesn’t mention if the team at Government Digital Service (GDS) are building and maintaining the site, despite the question “Who has created the UK War Memorials website and why?” being listed in the FAQ. It doesn’t actually say. They are doing excellent work with other government services, it would be good to know if they’re involved.
